Employee Master Record Lock - How to unlock when not locked by payroll?

We have an employee master record locked to a user that was making a change in HR (not locked by pre-payroll). They exited the record but the record still remains locked to that user when others go into it. Payroll needs to run today so we need to unlock that record ASAP. What is the recommended approach to get it unlocked quickly? Thank you.
