What is the use of defining 'Company' in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions 9.2?

Since Campus and HR are divided, they still share a lot of things, but I can't quite understand why do company remains in campus, because it is not crucial, at least from what I've used. Thanks in advanced for your responses.
