ePerformance - Checkpoints

Our organization is current on PeopleSoft 9.2, HCM Image 30 (PT8.57.06). My question has to do with ePerformance. Our goal is to have a performance template with 1 checkpoint. In configuration under template definition, when ‘track progress’ is selected, number of checkpoints is set to 1 under mid-period checkpoints. In addition, a finalize criteria step is also added. This finalize criteria step works similar to a checkpoint step. I have not found a way to configure any setting to only have 1 checkpoint, removing either checkpoint or finalize criteria step. Has anyone else in the user community experienced this issue, have a workaround or applied a customization? If
