Oracle Linux 8 VMware guest display resolution issues

I'm playing with a oracle 8.4 on VMware, built from dvd, and the display settings will not hold between reboots. We normally run our display resolution at 1280x800 on our linux VM's.

I've tried a red hat solution but it's not working. The solution was to copy the /root/.config/monitors.xml to /var/lib/gdm/.config/monitors.xml (user and permissions changed to match folder contents)

Does oracle have another possible solution ? VM has been assigned 64mb of video ram.
