What is the risk of not performing disk scrubbing on high capacity storage cells?

While I know the purpose of disk scrubbing, I would like to hear what are the possible risks in not performing regularly scheduled disk scrubbing for high capacity Exadata storage cells.

The true purpose of this question is to make a compelling case to IT leadership that turning it off could cause data corruption issues.
