absence calculations where the accumulator end date falls in in the middle of the absence period

What is the best practice for processing and/or setup for absence calculations where the accumulator end date falls in the middle of the absence period?

For example, we have biweekly pay groups, where the last period of the year spans calendar years. (Period Begin-End Dates 12/26/2010 – 1/8/2011.) Accumulator Period is Calendar Year. I need Takes between 12/26 and 12/31 applied to 2010, with the remainder applied to 2011.

To address this, we were told by our implementation partner to create segments within the periods so that the absence period would have one segment from 12/26 thru 12/31 and the other segment would be from 1/1 thru 1/8. We are creating the segments via an excel-2-ci that loads segmentation triggers.

Howdy, Stranger!
