auditing ideas or suggestions

Im not sure if Im in the right place for this question.

I have some stigs that require individuals being notified if specific actions are taken in the instance. I came up with a list of actions i want to audit and send me an email.

My question is can/should i create a trigger on the dba_common_audit_trail view or is there a better way to do what i am trying to achieve? I am sure there are ways out there but my google searches have not really given me much.
