how do I connect PAY_ERN_DIST data with HR_ACCTG_LINE?

I am attempting to isolate very specific data and its accounting and it would be easier if I could join PAY_ERN_DIST to HR_ACCTG_LINE on a specific earnings row level from PAY_EARN_DIST.   I don't know how to do that.   Is there a 'middle' table with document info that links them?   Is this even possible?  Thanks very much.
