Single AdminServer for all IDM components

I am testing installation of OUD 12.2.1.4.
I realize I need to install OAM/IDM and OUDSM as well.
Typically, that would mean 3 Node Managers and 3 AdminServers.
This is all going on a single machine.
I was wondering if there is a way to install this in a single domain with a single AdminServer and Node Manager.
If it's possible, is it wise?
Most documentation I see says use per domain node manager, but this seems like a waste of resources and more of a management nightmare.

Any thoughts or supporting documentation would be helpful.
