Versionlock on ODA vm's? Best Practice? ODA X7-2

Our Oracle guy retired so I'm taking over the Oracle systems since they are Linux. I was looking at doing YUM updates but all the packages have versionlock on them. Is this standard?

This is on a ODA X7-2 and we are running 2 nodes with a base VM running on them with oakcli etc. I'm used to vSphere so I'm not sure if the updates on these VMs were locked on purpose or not.

The ODA is running Oracle VM Server release 3.4.4 and the VMs are on OL 7.8.
