BI Publisher RTF XML file not behaving the same way between Sample XML and extract from Query

I am working on an RTF and when I load the XML of the data source it does not pull all data. I had originally created an RTF file that had sample student data and with that works perfectly. 

When I use the Sample XML Data file from Reporting Tools -> Data Source, the RTF does not pull the same fields. 

Why would the Data Source XML file not behave the same as the query equivalent? Also, when using the Data Source XML  and following the codes for grouping and looping data, I get no results. 

In case it makes a difference, the RTF was built in Word with the BI Publisher add-on.
