How Far Back can payroll process timecards for without causing payroll to bomb?

On current release of JDE 9.2 and tools release.  Canadian payroll needs to process late timecards and I've heard that there is a limit on how far back you can pull in timecards into payroll safely without causing payroll to bomb. Is it 3 months / 12 weeks from current date? Also, why is there a limit? It causes payroll to enter separate interims for older timecards which is inefficient. Thank you
