Please help review my revised RMAN backup strategy

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to 12c (12.2.0.1.0) from 9i (9.2.0.8.0). With it I brought our legacy backup strategy (weekly OS cold backups, nightly exp tablespace exports which I redid to use expdp)

With some help from this community I've been working on a strategy to use RMAN for the backups. I hope I'm not completely bonkers with this and hoping to get some feedback.

This seems to be working well for my strategy.

Appreciate any input.

Strategy

  • Run level 0 backup 2x weekly - Sunday + Thursday at 3am
  • Run level 1 backup daily at 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm (more if performance permits)
  • Maintain recovery window of 30 days. I will continue to run nightly EXPDP tablespace exports to go back further if required as they are fast enough to continue.
