clients does not detect end of communication channel in case of server crash

We experiment a server crash where Oracle databases 12.1.0.2 were running. A lot of clients connected using sql*Net did not detect the end of communication channel, even after several hours. sqlplus as programs hanged Most of them are on Linux server and windows server. Does any configuration or advices to avoid this behavior ?
