Can I change the Date in Service while adding a Mass Addition line into an existing asset (EBS R12)?

The client wants to be able to add mass addition lines to existing assets using a Date in Service = DPIS of original asset (which was months ago) so that the additions' depreciation is charged since the original asset's commencement of use. I am unable to change the Date in Service of the mass addition.
