Is a CPU updated after initial release?

The concept is out there to wait a few months before downloading a CPU just in case there were mistakes. In the past I have always gone along with the above, but I would just like to know for certain. Are there changes to to fixes released in a CPU after it's initial release(JAN/APR/JUL/OCT) or are the fixes for errors discovered in code released in a CPU, released in the NEXT CPU? Is it safer to wait a few months because the content of the CPU will be updated, or can one just go ahead because what's released, is released,
