Sales Order Decimal Control

How do we handle a scenario where we want to allow the item quantity on sales order to be in decimal for specific Item only version 12.2.9.

Already explored the other options as below,

Define new item with secondary UOM and enable the indivisible flag but this will only allow decimal for secondary UOM for current item which means all the old item will require OM indivisible flag to be updated as Yes which is a challange
Form Personalization to stop the order from getting booked if the line other than the expected item has decimal fraction but this is reactive approach and is not very acceptable.
