ASN tracking workflow without Demand Scheduling?

R47032 has a processing option to Launch ASN Tracking Workflow. In the event rule code it checks if Demand Scheduling is used. The Demand Scheduling implementation guide says that you can use the EDI Acknowledgment tables F47191 and F47192 (Error Detail) to capture a response and an error status for sent ASNs.

Can these EDI Acknowledgment tables and the tracking workflow be used without Demand Scheduling and what does the tracking workflow do? Currently, we run the flat file extraction R47032C which calls Update As Sent R47037. But when the flat file has been sent via FTP, we have no way of knowing if the ASN was received or if it was rejected because of errors.
