Can the Release Management demand processor program be customized?

For 830 schedules we'd like to remove/ignore the forecast demand for a group of items for all trading partners. Firm demand must continue to flow through. The group of items will be identified in master items by an item category. Our intention is to insert a custom process to remove the forecast in the 830 schedules for items with the new item category. We are currently on EBS release 11.1.2.
