X00022 creating database blockings

Hello Community,

We have Microsoft SQL Server 2012 JDE production database. On many occasions, database blockings appear. After tracing the query running behind the database block, below query was identified everytime during the block in progress. The database team is clearing the blocking. We want to understand why this blocking happens since X00022 is a standard business function and should just take few milliseconds to select the existing next number and commit to the database with the updated next number. Any input is highly appreciated. Please let me know what other details you would need.
