How to inventory Items in OSP Work Order while in OSP Step

Hi All -

We have lot-controlled assembled Finished Goods that are manufactured in-house, shipped out for processing and returned to manufacturing for final packaging. We are using OSP Work Order Process to manufacture.

We have a scenario where the work at the OSP step may be delayed due to Supplier capacity and the product needs to sent to warehouse and stocked for a few days. How can we track this inventory (lot number, quantity, subinventory, locator) in Oracle while the units are still in the 'Work Order'? Obviously, while the units are still in 'WIP', they are not in 'Inventory' and cannot be stocked or transacted in inventory. But this is what we are trying to do.
