Apply OS Patching On EBS App & DB Servers

Hi,

We are running several EBS Applications consisting both APP & DB servers and normally we don't perform OS patching of the machines. So i am more interested in knowing that is it OK to perform OS patching of these machines? Does patching will have negative impact on the Application stability, performance or is there a chance of something will got broke since patching will update libraries etc as well?
