Unable to update the first substitution variable value in app on Essbase 21C

on Essbase Web, I'm trying to update the variable for an ASO cube, I have no issue updating any other variables, but I'm unable to do so for the first one. The first variable value does not get captured in the app log, but the others do. I can do it on EAS lite but I get an error "Create Variable failed for row XX", along with "Error: 1051082: Substitution variable APP.DB.VARNAME already exists".

In the applogs, it appears to delete and create a new one, which is how it's able to update it.

Has anybody come across this before?
