Does POS_ASN.xgm(XML Gateway) supports using of lot numbers as inbound xml processing?

We are using XML gateway for Advanced shipment notice from supplier. Existing oracle standard component POS_ASN.xgm is being used. Using this map inbound ASN XML comes to oracle from supplier. Now we want to use its lot number, serial number functionality. Is this possible? I am asking this because one of the oracle document mentioned we can't use lot numbers. We are using oracle 12.2
