Remove Line Breaks Via Groovy Rule?

We're having an issue where users are entering line breaks/returns in certain text cells. We export our data and import it into a reporting tool and these breaks cause issues as the export out of EPBCS creates a new line in the export file any time it encounters a break. We are trying to find a way to leverage a rule, groovy or otherwise, to automatically remove these upon save, but haven't been successful. Is anybody else having the same issue or have found a viable solution?
