Identify Age 50 Extensions - how to update new hires after process runs annually?

in Compensation and Benefits - EBS (MOSC) Question

We are updating our process for catch up contributions to our 401K and 457 plans. Since age 50 is defined as participants who turns age 50 within the plan year (calendar year for us), if we run the process on 12/31 annually how are new hires processed?
