What is the purpose of Asset Management InterUnit Transfer Definition?

Hello--

PeopleBooks indicates "InterUnit transfer definitions act as templates to simplify performing InterUnit transfers." What does this mean? If I am going to perform transfers between each of the 30 plus BUs we have, do we have to set up a definition for each BU? All BUs will have one Asset Book.

If we do not have a definition does that mean we cannot perform transfers?

Are these definitions specifically related to Asset Book data and not necessarily financial and physical data?
