Reducing the SSCC code from 18 to 17 digits

Hi,

My client wants to reduce the length of the SSCC code from 18 digits to 17. I was thinking of reducing the size of the Company Identifier segment (UDC 41/UC) from 7 to 6 digits.

Is this safe to change? Alternatively, there is a leading zero, which could be removed. Does anyone know if this can be removed through setup or if we have to modify the BSFN GenerateSSCCNumber, which is called by P4620?
