PEOPLE_RELATION and RELATIONSHIP Translate Value Tables

Can someone remind me how PEOPLE_RELATION and RELATIONSHIP translate values should be used and maintained? A compare shows that we have different values between those fields. I have old notes that indicate PEOPLE_RELATION originated with CS and RELATIONSHIP originally came from HR.

Should these values be kept in sync? Is it correct that CS Campus Community relationships utilize the PEOPLE_RELATION values? If we are only using CS for Person data (and HR for job-related data), do we only need to maintain PEOPLE_RELATION values?

We are on CS 9.2 PUM 24.
