What is the best practice for tracking professional experience?

Good Day,
We are currently on PeopleSoft HCM 9.2, Image 36, and we are trying to determine the best practice for tracking an employee's professional experience.
We see three practical options, a calculated date in the professional experience field, populating the Prior Work Experience page and checking the Relevant Work Experience checkbox, and person profiles.
Is anyone tracking this information. If so, how is it being tracked? Is anyone bringing prior work experience in from Taleo?
