oracle forms data field showing greyed out and not editable or updatable.

I have developed a new custom form in which I want to make a data block item updatable. But even if I set the update allowed property of data block item to Yes, it is still showing greyed out in the application. How can I resolve this issue?

I am using oracle forms version 10.1.2.0.2
