Best way to stop RAC instances before maintenance operations

Hi

Oracle 19.14 two node RAC databases.

My question is what would be the best and least painful way to stop certain RAC instances..?

Since now, I've been using:

# crstl stop crs

The problem, well we have 24/7 system, and even if I do this whenever there is less load, then still few sessions get an error due to one instance being shut down.

I have tried also some other methods, for example:

  1. stopping entire home (or all databases with separate command) using -stopoption NORMAL or TRANSACTIONAL - The problem with this one, database shuts down very slowly (like it can take up to 10-15 minutes), and after some time it does not allow any new connections but connections are still redirected this VIP name and all these sessions get "ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress" during several minutes. So this will be even more painful for the users.

Howdy, Stranger!
