What is difference between Unapplied Receipt and Unresolved Receipts

We are trying to develop a custom query to build something close to 'Unapplied and Unresolved Receipts Register' but based on our need. I am a developer for this issue and trying to understand difference between unapplied and unresolved receipt. Is there a documentation/explanation about this report in EBS? What is the primary difference between these receipt types?
