opatch commands error

Downloaded latest opatch version 12.2.0.1.30 for 64-bit Linux

when running opatch command such as

opatch version

I am getting the error

./opatch: line 839: [: too many arguments

./opatch: line 839: [: too many arguments

Java (1.7) could not be located. OPatch cannot proceed!

OPatch returns with error code = 1

I confirmed the download is 64 bit, p6880880_122010_Linux-x86-64.zip same as the DB and Java all 64-bit

I also tried adding the -jdk , still same error

opatch version -jdk $ORACLE_HOME/jdk
