Impact for Work Order Closing on once a year or next years

If we close Work Order once a year or next year so what is financial impact and any other challenge. We are using Average Costing. The actual requirement business doesn’t want to close Work order on same years due to material return, means some time we need to return material after 6 month and stander process, WO was close so we not able to perform return material.
