Automatic trigger of leave accrual prior to new hire benefits enrollment?

Is there a configurable way for monthly leave accruals to trigger automatically prior to a new employee enrolling in their benefits? If an employee waits the full alotted 30 days to enroll in their benefits, they could miss out on their first month's leave accrual. We are switching from an annual accrual to monthly and anticipate that this could be a problem.
