Configurator Fast Sales Order Entry

We're looking for options to speed up entry of configured items in sales orders. The current recommendation is to copy from existing orders which is valid but reviewing previous orders to find the configuration you're looking for could be a tedious endeavor. Each order's configured item has to be viewed separately on another form which means popping in and out of this form for each order until the configuration is found. If you have a fairly complex configured item definition, you could have a multitude of orders to scan before arriving at the order to copy. Has anyone encountered this
