Is there an easier way to access PeopleSoft employee info for interface into EBS HR?

We currently receive and download a csv file from our corporate server with new or modified employee information (PeopleSoft), then upload, stage, validate and process the data into our 12.2.3 HR (EBS) module. This is clumsy and subject to errors requiring research and reprocessing.

Surely there is an easier, more automated and secure method of handling this data swap. Has anyone come up with an API or other means to communicate data between the two applications?
