Smart View - Do user need to have Local Admin Access for Smart View/Excel to function?

We recently installed Smart view on our users laptops to use Smart View in Excel. None of the users had Local Admin access to their laptop. The users were noting that the Smart View was not performing the same across the users laptops and we were redirect to grant all users with Local Admin authority to resolve. This has fixed the performance issues but we are concerned with the level of access the users have.


Is there an alternative solution?
