Password suppress in EBS maintenance scripts (On-premise hosted on AIX servers)

IHAC who has various scripts that are automated for EBS maintenance activities(hosted on-premise) which have passwords embedded in them for a long time. Because of security compliance issues, they would like to remove all the passwords referred to in these files and still have the automation in place. We have suggested making use of gpg for encrypting the password file but they seem to have a concern about it

Any other suggestion or option to handle the ask?
