What' s the impact of changing the UOM in F3003

i would like to change the routing UOM for an existing item in F3003 .

Process would be ;

-1-close all transactions with the curent setup

-2-to expire the routing for this item

-2- create a new routing withthe new UOM

do u know any procedure to perform those actions

is that recommended
