RMAN old file removal

We're running scripted database backup via RMAN all right, but occasionally this causes a full disk by means of higher activity. All of this in on 19.17 Linux databases. In that case some backups may fail, but that is an issue we can solve.

What we can't solve is this: as part of the normal procedure, old backups are cleaned ... but then it happens to occur that some backups never get removed any more. The files remain on disk way past the retenton period. Waiting till the next full backup cycle (repeating every week) doesn't solve this issue. We suspect that the cause of this is a wrong order of commands (see below).
