How do we properly kill a stuck task in FDMEE batch

How do we properly kill a stuck task in FDMEE batch to ensure it does not rerun after batch is executed successfully (stand alone task as duplicate ). Recently there was a task seems stuck in "Process Details" in workspace and our admin stopped and restarted the FDMEE services to kill it. Business user re-executed the batch and it was successful. soon after batch was done , same task was seen running again as stand-alone task in "Process Details" . looks like the task that was stuck in first attempt was not really killed but was inactive and become active later
