Why does Effective Date not display on Person/Non Person Profile summary page?

I'm hoping someone is willing to share information about inactivating the effective status of Content Items that are no longer relevant to their organization in Profile Management.

We presently do this by adding a new effective dated row in the content item area, but that causes issues with the data displayed on the profile summary page.

If you do this, can you share how? If not, do you get this information another way?

Profile Management Peoplebook doesn't address this and any information you could provide would be valuable.
