Change Date Pattern for Company - P0010 (Fixed Asset Related)

Can I change the date pattern for a company to a new date pattern when the two defined date patterns are the same? The two date patterns used to be different but one of the date patterns changed to be our standard monthly date pattern quite a while back. I am not sure of we can do this or not and whether it would affect any historical data or entries that have been posted to the F0902 table?
