ESS and element entry validation fast formula

Hello - I have written an element entry validation fast formula which works perfectly when I capture the element through the element entry form on EBS. The element can also be captured through ESS using Individual Compensation Distribution. The formula does not seem to work when using the ESS route. Is there a specific setting that I need to use in order to link a validation fast formula in ESS?
