10046 trace often shows 'unaccounted-for time' as top entry.

How to investigate a unaccounted-for time entry , often taking 2/3 of the total time? I've seen several traces now, with the unaccounted time taking up several minutes. Environment: EE 12.1.0.2.0, with dataguard (async, max performance). Linux:  uname -srmLinux 3.10.0-1160.76.1.el7.x86_64 x86_64. Example:
