Serial Control Settings

We have an assembly item number that is flagged for serial control in an inventory org with a defined starting prefix specific to that inventory org and a defined starting number. Serial numbers are generated based on the demand for the week so that when the assembly work order is completed, a serial number that was generated is selected and assigned to the assembly.

Recently, we found out that the serial number that was assigned by a user to complete the assembly work order does not have to be from the list of values for the serial numbers generated with a state of "Defined but not used". It can literally be anything the user inputs.
