Impact on Planning when Receipt is done against ASN

Today we are planning to enable ASN functionality to track shipments and also receive them against ASN. I wanted to understand how is ASN receiving different from PO receiving and does this has any implications on planning?? Will the planning engine consider this in -transit.?
