E1 30/31 How to block an item number to avoid new work orders created?

Hi everyone

I want to know, if there is way to block an item number to avoid the creation of a new work order.

Our customer wants to inactivate certain item numbers in shop flor temporarily, to avoid the creation of new work orders and then after certain internal procedures have been completed, they want to activate the item number again.
